About Me

me-stripes3 I’m a trainee transactional analysis (TA) counsellor and psychotherapist based in Edinburgh, UK. I currently hold a training contract with the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA) and am taking private clients for psychotherapy and counselling work.

After completing a BA(Hons) degree and working in the Scottish arts industry for a number of years I decided on a new career path and entered formal TA training at the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute (CPTI) in Edinburgh in 2005. I am currently working towards certification as a TA psychotherapist.

As a young, male therapist, I’m keen to shake off the stereotype of counsellors and therapists as being either midle-aged men in corduroy suits, with big beards and long cigars, or middle aged women with knitted cardigans and chunky jewellery. For me, the therapy room can support a wide range of contemporary issues, and I seek to handle them with respect, commitment, humour and personality.

I am hoping that this blog space will be somewhere for me to occasionally share some of the thoughts and ideas associated with my work, or reflections on current events or issues. I’m particularly interested in the social role and psychological impact of mass media outlets, and how the world we are shown – and the way it is shown – can impact our response to it and our internal processes.
